In this paper, we investigate the performance of the dual-hop free spaceoptical (FSO) communication systems under the effect of strong atmosphericturbulence together with misalignment effects (pointing error). We consider arelay assisted link using decode and forward (DF) relaying protocol betweensource and destination with the assumption that Channel State Information isavailable at both transmitting and receiving terminals. The atmosphericturbulence channels are modeled by k-distribution with pointing errorimpairment. The exact closed form expression is derived for outage probabilityand bit error rate and illustrated through numerical plots. Further BER resultsare compared for the different modulation schemes.
